Holiday in Port Stephens

After our trip to the Hunter Valley, we drove down to the coast to Port Stephens. Port Stephens is based around a large inlet from the sea. There are several towns and resorts but we stayed at Westbury's Marina resort in Nelson Bay.

One of the main attractions that brings people to Port Stephens is the dolphin colony that lives in the bay. There are lots of dolphins around and they're fairly easy to find. We went out on Moonshadow, one of the many charter boats that do dolphin-watching tours. We were lucky enough to see about half a dozen dolphins, including two which were obviously mother and baby - pictures are here. We were really pleased to see dolphins up close in the wild.

The other thing that brings people to Port Stephens is the scenery and beaches. We drove up to Gan-Gan Lookout and took some great photos of the views, which show the beaches and the greenery as well. It's a beautiful place and we were blessed with good weather. Another attraction is, of course, the wildlife!

We ate well (as usual!) - we found a restaurant called Sandpipers in Nelson Bay. A wonderful seafood restaurant. We were so impressed the first time we ate there that we immediately booked to go back the following night! To get to the 'facilities' guests have to walk through the kitchen so you get to see behind the scenes and of course thank the chef personally.
